RAID 0+1 data recovery
RAID 0+1 known as a mirrors of stripes uses technique of mirroring and striping without parity. This most popular raid array combine the best features of striping and mirroring to deliver high performance in most uses and superior faults tolerance. RAID 0+1 is a mirrored configuration of two striped sets. Comparing to RAID 1+0, RAID 1+0 provides better fault tolerance and rebuild performance then RAID 0+1. Any combination of RAID 0+1 or 1+0 provides general excellent performance thanks to combining speed of RAID 0 and redundancy of RAID 1 getting rid of parity calculations.
Controller Requirements: almost all controllers can work in configuration RAID 0+1 or RAID 1+0 but not always in both
Hard Disk Requirements: maximum is limited by controller, to build RAID 0+1 minimum 4 discs is needed, all drivers should be the same size
Array Capacity: size of the smallest drive*number of drives /2
Storage Efficiency: if all the drives are the same size it is 50%
Fault tolerance: very good for RAID 0+1 and even better for RAID 1+0
Availability: very good for RAID 0+1 and even better for RAID 1+0
Degradation and rebuilding: relatively little for RAID 1+0
Random read performance: very good
Random write performance: good
Sequential read performance: very good
